Bolivia supports Iran’s nuclear programme

Published on 24 November 2009 - 8:40pm
More about:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in Bolivia for a short visit. His Bolivian counterpart Evo Morales welcomed him at La Paz airport with military honours.

The two leaders held talks on bilateral accords worth over 800 million euros. Mr Morales repeated his support for Iran's nuclear programme for the production of energy. He also said Bolivia was willing to export uranium to Iran when this became possible.

There were demonstrations in the centre of La Paz by both supporters and opponents of Mr Ahmadinejad. Feminists protested against the treatment of women by the Iranian regime.

President Ahmadinejad began his South American tour on Monday in Brazil and is travelling on from Bolivia to Venezuela later on Tuesday.
