Athens police clash with protesters

Published on 3 December 2009 - 11:11pm
More about:

The Athens police have clashed with student protesters.

Tensions in the Greek capital have mounted ahead of the anniversary of last year's riots in which a police officer killed a 15-year-old boy. The students tried to occupy the economic faculty in Athens, but were dispersed by police officers who fired tear gas grenades. Across Greece, students have gathered to commemorate the young boy's death on 6 December 2008 which sparked a wave of violence. Several demonstrations have been planned for the coming weekend.
