  • Alfredo Astiz, turns himself over to the police on 1 July 2001. Known as the « Blond Angel of Death », the former head of operations of the marine engineering school (ESMA) - one of the largest torture centers in Buenos Aires during the « dirty war » (1976-1983) - is the subject of an international arrest warrant delivered by Interpol, after an Italian request relating to his presumed complicity in the disappearance of three people: Angela Maria Aieta, Juan Pegoraro and Susana Pegoraro. Alfredo Astiz is also the subject of numerous proceedings in Argentina, France, Spain, Sweden and Italy.
