The appeal hearing of Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been postponed until 26 June. This will give Suu Kyi and her lawyers the opportunity to summon two eyewitnesses.
Suu Kyi is standing trial for breaching the conditions of her house arrest. She could be imprisoned for five years for letting an American stay at her waterfront home after he swam across the lake to visit her.
US President Barack Obama calls it a 'show trial'. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy are concerned about the plight of Suu Kyi and have asked China and India for help. Elections will be held in Myanmar next year, sparking speculation in the West that Myanmar's military junta is trying to minimise Suu Kyi's chances as opposition leader.
