8 US service personnel die in Afghanistan

Published on 27 October 2009 - 9:45pm
More about:

A series of bomb attacks in southern Afghanistan have killed eight US service personnel and one Afghan civilian. According to ISAF, they were all killed by improvised explosive devices.

On Monday, 14 military personnel were killed in two separate helicopter crashes. A total of 53 US soldiers have been killed this month, the highest number since the US-led invasion in 2001. US President Barack Obama is considering sending tens of thousands of extra troops to Afghanistan to put down the insurgency.

The second round of voting in the Afghan presidential elections is scheduled for 7 November and comprehensive security measures are being set up to ensure that it passes off peacefully.
