500 massacred in Jos

Published on : 10 March 2010 - 11:41am | By International Justice Tribune (IJT 101)
More about:

Up to 500 people - including women, children and babies - were killed in clashes near the Nigerian city of Jos on Sunday. Three mainly Christian villages near Jos were attacked from nearby hills by people with machetes.

The attacks are said to have been in revenge for the killing of several hundred Muslims around Jos in January. But Archbishop John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan of Abuja says it’s not a religious conflict:

“This is...between herdsmen and farmers, only the Fulani are all Muslims and the Berom all Christians,” he told Vatican Radio.

Witnesses say, before being hacked to death victims of Sunday’s three-hour massacre were caught in animal traps and fishing nets as they tried to flee their attackers.

The pictures you show here on this particular page is not of those who were killed on Sunday massacre. This is an old picture from January attack. So please update your pictures. Thank you.
