Rwanda's former interior minister Callixte Kalimanzira has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the 1994 genocide.
More than 800,000 people were killed in the genocide; most of them ethnic Tutsis and moderate ethnic Hutus. Kalimanzira (54) was tried for coaxing thousands of Tutsis into a trap after promising them protection at a refugee camp. They were killed by Hutus.
The Rwanda Tribunal in Tanzania found Kalimanzira guilty of genocide. The one-time government minister, who was arrested in 2005, has always denied the allegations.
