On January 6, the Dutch public prosecutor's office appealed the December 23 ruling against businessman Frans van Anraat, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for complicity in war crimes [IJT-38]. Van Anraat was acquitted on the charge of complicity in genocide on the grounds that he was unaware of the genocidal intentions of the Iraqi regime.
