Why people can test drugs in the Netherlands

Published on : 1 December 2011 - 8:55pm | By Charlotte Bartels (Screenshot: RNW)
More about:

In the Netherlands, drugs users can test their pills to see if they're safe. Even though hard drugs are banned, the Trimbos Institute in Utrecht and other organisations that treat drug addicts will test users' cocaine or XTC to see if it contains dangerous substances.

By allowing drugs testing, the government hopes to prevent drugs-related deaths. Radio Netherlands Worldwide reporter Patricia Cronie went to the Trimbos Institute with a secret stash of XTC pills to see how it all works.
