The main suspect in the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway, Joran van der Sloot, has been detained in connection with the murder of 21-year old Stephanie Flores Ramirez in Peru. Van der Sloot was captured 3000 kilometres away in Chile after fleeing the Peruvian capital Lima. If convicted, Van der Sloot could face 25 years behind bars.

The final stretch
The general election is a just five days away and campaigning has reached fever pitch. The conservative VVD, led by Mark Rutte, is well ahead of its closet rival, the Labour Party, led by Job Cohen. And the two politicians have been trading blows all week. Meanwhile, a dejected Christian Democratic party (CDA) may have thrown their leader PM Jan Peter Balkenende under the political bus by leaking to the press the fact that many in the party do not believe he can win the election. But it seems the prime minister is ignoring the criticism.
Trafigura on trial
Swiss oil company Trafigura is on trial in an Amsterdam district court accused of lying to the authorities about the nature of toxic waste it had a on board the tanker Probo Koala. The ship eventually sailed from Amsterdam to Ivory Coast where it unloaded the waste. The toxic sludge was dumped in Abidjan and hundreds of people claimed they became ill as a result. Also, 17 people may have died because of the illegal dumping. Trafigura submits that the waste did not cause the health problems. And the case in Amsterdam only covers actions the company took in the Netherlands and not the alleged harm done to people in Ivory Coast.

I read of concern that Sloot may endure a show trial. He mocked everyone, then abused females in Thailand. He deserves no human rights. He's dog shit on the sidewalk of life. He'll be an outcast in the prison, I hope he's raped, infected, and murdered violently.
Then Natalie and Stephany will have justice. Trouw cries foul for Sloot, while niger authorities in Aruba wouldn't (?) convict him. That he just breathes air is an assault on the planet and all of us decent beings.
My ancestry's from Europe. I'm ashamed to know it. By far we are not a perfect society. I despise your culture, people, and country. Too bad you won't destroy each other in another European war.
I wish that Sloot is terrorized, your nation is shamed, especially that Niger island Aruba. That pig that wrote the column endures the horrific realization of having a loved one violently abused, raped, maimed and murdered !
Please do not embarrass our country by saying you are an American. You have either used an on-line translator or you are new to our language. Your comments are disgusting and your language foul.
As far as Joran is concerned, he will get what he deserves.
Justice will indeed be served in Peru, no doubts!!!
Just wait until the process finishes, it will take maybe a couple of weeks but this killer will see what is freedom no more.
Many people very much into foreign affairs have very high regards for the almost unparalleled development in the right direction in all matters and resilient economy that Peru is having for the last 20 years. Even President Obama has talked about this June 1st at the Oval Office presidential conference after official meetings with Alan Garcia his counterpart from Peru. Peru nowadays is the best USA partner in the region. http://www.musicsaga.net/mm/peru-usa.html
So let's wait a little and justice will be done. Regarding the prison conditions, this killer deserves the worst prison Peru can manage to provide him.
