Vaccinating toddlers

Published on : 3 November 2009 - 4:59pm | By Marjolein Stoop
More about:

Dutch parents are divided over whether to vaccinate children under the age of five against pandemic influenza A(H1N1), known in the Netherlands Mexican flu. Parents are concerned because toddlers run a high risk of being infected by other kids at kindergartens and crèches.

The Health Council of the Netherlands, an independent scientific advisory body tasked with advising the government and parliament on public health issues, will issue its advice on vaccinating the under fives next week. Health Minister Ab Klink requested the advice and says there is more than enough time to vaccinate toddlers.

However, if a vaccination notification does fall through the letterbox, the mothers that we spoke to in Hilversum are not sure if they will vaccinate their kids against pandemic influenza. They want to know if the new vaccine has any side effects and many want to know more about the vaccine and the disease and say an information evening would be a good idea.

This is really informative article.I would like to say We delayed some and declined some. We did none at birth, and agreed upon a reasonable schedule with our pediatrician. With her support, the school system has been cooperative. Some we just simply believe to be unneccessary, some are more important. There are support and/or informational groups out there, much better suited for this decision than a bunch of random posters with their own agendas. One if I remember correctly was Moms Against Mandatory Vaccinations. Our children are healthy and vibrant, thanks to God's grace.

Press Trust Of India Moscow, November 06, 2009 First Published: 09:44 IST(6/11/2009) Spicy Indian curries could prevent swine flu and common cold just like any prescribed medicine available with the chemists, Russian doctors have said. "You can strengthen immunity by consuming spicy foods like curries, as spices like turmeric, ginger and zeera also posses excellent therapeutic effect," an unnamed official of Moscow city sanitary and anti-epidemics committee was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti. As panic grips Muscovites over the spread of seasonal influenza and swine flu in the eastern parts of the country and neighbouring Ukraine, authorities are focusing on prevention and have ordered the use of masks at work place. Besides the intake of spicy food, people have been advised to consume raw onions and garlic, which also are said to contain good anti-viral properties. The mass vaccinations are expected to begin in Russia only from November 9, when the remaining clinical trails would be completed.

To get the vaccine or not? I say get the facts make your choice from your own research. If you are anti vaccine, do not get you or your child a vaccine. However, parents really should be asking WHY have not children been offered the vaccine in the first place? They should be on the frontlines to getting the vaccine and the RIVM was very aware the flu H1N1 is a burden to the young yet decided on the most backward schedule that any country could come up with. It does not follow the WHO, CDC to name a few organizations recommendations not even close! In fact everyone should be offered the vaccine EVERYONE (this according to the WHO and various other similar types of organizations. however the RIVM has from the beginning decided they had not any plans to vaccinate the entire Dutch population. Read this public documenthttp://www.rivm.nl/cib/binaries/Vaccination%20against%20pandemic%20influenza%20A%20H1N1%202009_tcm92-62615.pdf and then ask yourself why? Ask yourself the reasoning and I ask you to ask the RIVM and the minister to explain. This has turned into a stupid argument about the vaccine when it should be an outrage that the RIVM has let children and young people be a serious risk. In addition the advice people are getting from the huisarts is to just sick it out while children are dead with in as little as 24 hours! One child’s preventable death is a crime in my mind, and to deny a vaccine to even have to consider offering it is negligent. Please read this public documenthttp://www.rivm.nl/cib/binaries/Vaccination%20against%20pandemic%20influenza%20A%20H1N1%202009_tcm92-62615.pdf dated from last summer from the RIVM it fully discloses that the RIVM was well aware of children, the young and pregnant woman being at serious risk over all other healthy age groups.
