Dutch theatre for New Yorkers - Holland's summer festival formula appears to be making a highly successful debut across the Atlantic. New York is currently celebrating its Dutch roots in style. The number of visitors who flocked to the New Island Festival this past weekend exceeded expectations. The theatre venue on Governors Island was a crowded mix of American and Dutch theatre-goers.
Audience reactions to the performances were generally enthusiastic. People were impressed by DJ Armin van Buuren's dance event during which even the Dutch Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Máxima took to the stage. They saw "location theatre" groups such as Tuig (Thugs), who built a giant mobile tower against the Manhattan skyline on a large, wet grassland. And they watched the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, a unique combination of travelling theatre and music.
The New Island Festival on Governors Island continues this weekend.

Thank you very much for the excellent and useful subject.
