Dutchman Jos Tio is the very image of sustainability in the year 2010. Forget about the traditional, tree-hugging environment freak, Tio is a businessman.
Of course, Jos is happy to be doing environmentally-friendly work, and of course it's nice that he’s largely independent of utility companies. But for him, it’s all about earning money from sustainable projects. For example: his new, purpose-built boat rental company – the Electro Boathouse (het Elektrobotenhuis). The building’s solar panels, rain water reservoirs, and high-tech heating system mean that he saves so much money on energy he’s practically earning it back.
And his electric boats are charged using green energy generated on-site.
Making money on sustainability, that’s what it’s all about.

Of course all of the materials used to create these solar panels rely on nonsustainability. How do they get these metals? With oil of course. The only sustainable lifestyle is the Stone Age and we will be there soon.
Boldness in business is the first, second, and third thing.
No nation was ever ruined by trade.
