Summer schools bring slow kids up to speed

Published on : 11 August 2011 - 5:38pm | By Krista Arriëns (Screenshot: RNW)
More about:

Instead of going for a swim, travelling abroad or visiting the zoo, many children voluntarily go back to school during their summer holidays.

In five Dutch cities, summer schools - financed by the Education Ministry - have begun. They're aimed at children whose arithmetic or linguistic skills have lagged behind. After attending summer school, they will be better able keep up with their classmates.
