The film, Sins of my Father, about the life of Sebastián Marroquín, the son of Colombian drugs trafficker Pablo Escobar, was recently screened at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and is set to be shown in commercial cinemas.
The children of Rodrigo Lara Bonilla and Luís Carlos Galán are also featured in the documentary. Their fathers were both killed by Escobar. Argentinian filmmaker Nicolás Entel brought them all together for what turned out to be one of the most moving sections of the documentary. The result is a gesture of goodwill and an apology for the crimes of the drugs baron who is held responsible for over 4000 deaths.
Sebastián Marroquín was born Juan Pablo Escobar but changed his name when he emigrated to Argentina in 1995. This documentary marks his break with anonymity and he hopes it will help bring peace to Colombia. Radio Netherlands Worldwide spoke to the documentary’s maker and the drug baron’s son.
