Royal satire raises temperatures

Published on : 10 January 2012 - 11:03am | By Eric Beauchemin (Screenshot: Luckyyv.nl)
More about:

There have been mixed reactions to a short satirical film shown on a popular Dutch TV talk show on Monday night. The film includes manipulated pictures of members of the Dutch royal family naked during a state visit. While some people accept the humour, others feel that it's crossing the boundaries of what's acceptable.

The film is a reaction to a political row in the Netherlands in the wake of a visit by Queen Beatrix to a mosque in the United Arab Emirates. She wore a headscarf, which angered the leader of the Freedom Party, Geert Wilders. The Dutch Government Information Service, RVD, said that it was normal for the royal family to observe local conventions regarding clothing.

I recently discovered your blog/website and have really enjoyed reading this and some of your other posts. I thought I would dive out from the shadows and leave my first comment. I am not sure what to say other than I have enjoyed reading and will continue to visit as often as I can. Adauga Anunturi Gratuite Oradea

Funny!

Life is too short not to laugh a little. In England they do this type of thing a lot, and everyone has a good laugh about it.

Like all people, I'm sure the Dutch Royal Family have a good sense of humor. Queen Beatrix is known as the "smiling Queen) and Willem Alexander always has a smile on his face as well. I'm sure no harm was intended, and it was all for the sake of fun.

I have a feeling the royal family had a good laugh about it.

How about making a little fun of Muslim leaders for a change? Why is it always that Western leaders and Western VIPs are ridiculed and get treated with disrespect; but every third class TV show hostess bows down and kisses the floor in submission when it comes to the perpetually enraged soldiers of allah? Cheap shots by cheap people, isn't it?

Dislike manipulation, it's dishonest.
Not acceptable at any time.
The video is a fake. Not funny.

"dishonest trait of manipulation" is a luxury Africa do not see often. There is no shame in open dishonesty and fraud. Manipulation is replaced with rhetoric....Ubuntu with greed. Thank you for a sophisticated system. Dutch news rule!

Well if the Queen of the Netherlands wants to be politically correct and cover her head when visiting Muslim countries, she should also "dress down" when visiting some African villages.

Personally I feel they are going out of their way to show that they are politcally correct because it must be hard knowing your ancestors stole all the wealth from the former colonies!
