The Dutch airline company Martinair has announced that it will suspend all passenger operations at the end of next year. Martinair has decided to focus exclusively on air cargo.
Around a third of the airline's 1800 employees will be affected by the decision. Martinair, which is owned by Air France/KLM, has said it will hire as many of the employees as possible.
Martinair was set up in 1956 by Martin Schröder. It specialised in charter flights to sunny holiday destinations, such as Spain, the Netherlands Antilles and Suriname.
