Pick of the Day: Cannabis from Holland - the legal kind

Published on : 15 September 2010 - 5:12pm | By Marijke van den Berg (graphic: RNW)
More about:

The Bedrocan company, which grows medicinal marihuana for the Dutch state, is expanding its activities to the United States, Canada and Israel.

An increasing number of countries are becoming convinced that cannabis is the best medicine to provide relief from pain and nausea to patients suffering from a number of diseases, including cancer and multiple sclerosis. Joint Bedrocan owner Tjalling Erkelens says that under the Obama administration it has even become easier for patients in the US to obtain medicinal marihuana.

The profound distrust harboured by many US states regarding cannabis, including its use as a medicine, still forms a serious obstacle. Patient organisations are angry about the situation because they want to have access to medicinal cannabis as soon as possible.

In Europe, Bedrocan products already sold in Germany, Poland, Italy and Finland. Production has increased from 40 kilos in 2004 to 150 kilos now.

Becareful the Cannabis from bedrocan is not what it seems its manipulated and has nothing to with normal Cannabis its really strange and gives you dark rings under your Eyes really nasty

I strongly believe that Bedrocan is an Awesome Company to work for and it would be fun to work with them horticultralists side by side, in creating medicinal plants for thoses people who a re truely in need of Cannabis. Being a patient and a care giver I can see the success of thi sfine company in growth and management but as I also see the USA is corrupt and with everything that is going on with CA and prop 19 I strongly agree that if the wind blows in the right direction then Bedrocan is the nest step in the industry that will help make the economy turn upright.

It seems to me with reading the Radio Netherlands Worldwide for sometime that your quite biased towards the pro-softdrug arguments... Lets be a little more fair on this subject. On this page alone you have 5 anti-pot articles....

Please Dutch citizens! Do not let U.S. policy invade your beautiful country by imposing it's barbaric laws on you and your medical patients and those that prefer to smoke Cannabis to drink alcohol. I suffer very much daily and have been convinced that pot helps my ailments, I am a chronic-pain patient, have Hep-C, and very depressed. Smoking a little Cannabis helps my medical issues greatly. I live in New Mexico and under certain and few conditions, Medical grade Marijuana is allowed. The process to become a "legal" user is a long and tedious one and my Doctor being Pakistani, will not recommend it to me. So, I have to risk jail to get a little of my God-given right to have a quality of life worth living. I take 300 mgs. of Morphine Sulfate daily and have been for 12 yrs. but, if I want to smoke a little weed for my issues I have to jump through many hops to become a legal smoker.

I am a 52 yr. old ex-vet from the States. I have Hep-C, and am a chronic-pain patient. I take over 300 mgs. of Morphine Sulfate daily and have been for the last 12 years. I found out recently that medical grade Marijuana helps me very much concerning my issues of pain, insomnia, nausea (hep-c) and depression (try living my life for a few days and see if you don't get very depressed). I live in NEW MEXICO and Cannabis is legal to use but the qualifying conditions are very few and the patient is made to jump through many hoops to become a legal user. I would do anything to live in Amsterdam or the Netherlands in general as I am terrified to get caught here with what many doctors and patients consider medicine. Will I ebver get a better quality of life?
