Water plays an essential role in the Netherlands. But the quality of the Dutch water supply is at risk because intensive farming requires the use of large quantities of pesticides.
One of the country's district water boards recently released an alarming report about the quality of Holland's water. In some areas, the concentration of pesticides is so great that it's hundreds or even thousands of percentage points higher than permitted.
New European Union legislation, due to enter into effect next week, is expected to lead to a further deterioration of the quality of the Dutch water supply.

I can't think of a single solution to this problem other than eating organic foods, buying organic flowers, and encouraging others to do the same.
