Living to 100 and beyond - what's the secret?

Published on : 31 March 2010 - 2:34pm | By Zainab Hammoud (still (c) from the RNW video )
More about:

Eleven centenarians from the Rotterdam area were recently invited to a special ‘Century Dinner’.

Humanitas - a foundation that provides housing and care for the elderly - organised the event for all its residents aged 100 years or older.

What’s the secret behind living to a ripe old age? How can you stay fit and 'with it'? These were some of the issue Humanitas had in mind when it organised the culinary feast. The guests, their relatives and carers clearly enjoyed the dishes prepared for them by the foundation’s culinary team.

And each of the centenarians received a painting by artist Rob van Trier, produced there, on the spot, at the dinner and inspired by the centenarians and the fish dish placed before them. Most of the paintings symbolised beauty, vitality and youth.

The Humanitas foundation, known for its concept of ‘age-proof housing’, runs a number facilities for the elderly in the greater Rotterdam area

Sometimes it's not about living long, it's about living happy.

Living long -
A) gives others the question where to store you
B) gives you hell lot of wrinkles for pple hard to look at you or you looking at yourself numbingly
C) makes every day passes the same you dun know when or how it will end
D) makes you destroy all mirrors!
E) makes you hate counting days

etc... ... ...

my biggest belief is life style and diet dictate ones healthy to a very large degree. when i gave up fast food and traded hamburgers and french fries for lower carbohydrate foods, steamed sea food and vegetables i felt much better in just three days ! i have to eat a little more . that is ok since i feel so much better now also love and happiness and being happy with who you are tops it all off. PEACE LOVE AND HAPPINESS TO ALL DANKASHANE
