Liquid coke: the latest rage for drug smugglers

Published on : 22 August 2011 - 4:00pm | By Eric Beauchemin (Screenshot: NOS)
More about:

Drug smugglers are constantly coming up with new ways to get narcotics past airport customs controls. At Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the latest rage among mules is liquid cocaine.

The drug smugglers dissolve the drug in water and put it into condoms, which they then seal and swallow. Many mules believe that the condoms can't be detected by the airport's scanners.

But border police say this is simply not true. In addition, there is a much greater risk that the condoms will break, releasing the coke into the blood stream and rapidly causing death.

I will never understand how these people are willing to risk their lives for some extra money... Illicit drug industry is a profitable one, we all know that and what strikes me the most is that it has so many members that are willing to go beyond any limits to make sure they keep smuggling drugs. I read some statistics on drug rehab Fort Lauderdale and apparently the number of drug users is getting higher and higher by the year. Where will it stop?
