Police in the city of Almelo have begun a pilot project to help suspects who are addicted to GHB to kick their habit in a cell. Up until now, police often have to release addicts within a few hours because they experience such serious withdrawal symptoms.

So far, the police have helped one addict kick the habit. They believe the programme should be expanded throughout the Netherlands.
