More than 800,000 visitors from all corners of the world will come to see the flowers at the Keukenhof gardens when the new season starts on 17 March. The theme of this year's 61st edition of the Netherlands' most famous flower show is 'From Russia with Love'.
And the Russian theme was extended to the celebrity chosen to open the show: wife of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Svetlana.
Radio Netherlands Worldwide joined a gardener, a guide and a garden architect during preparations for the opening. There is an awful lot of work to do in the last days before the floral exhibition begins.
The Netherlands has had a long cold winter this year, so many of the tulips and other plants haven't quite come into blossom yet. But flowers have also been cultivated inside the greenhouses and distributed throughout the park. And anyway, spring is now in the air!
