The Dutch authorities are planning to force prostitutes to show their customers a 'hustler' ID card proving that they are registered sex workers. The government hopes the measure will help combat illegal practices, such as the trade in women and forced prostitution. Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands since 2000.
Prostitutes, escorts, johns and social workers are opposed to the hustler ID card. There are also fears that the ID card will make more prostitutes go underground.
