Eventually the world will run out of oil. And the people of Transition Town want to be prepared. So this small group of committed environmentalists are learning the skills to do without.
On a piece of waste ground in Deventer, lent to them by the local council, they’re learning how to build houses and grow vegetables. In a world without oil there won’t be plastic or supermarkets and self-sufficiency will be key.
And while heedless consumers of fossil fuels will be left struggling to cope, the good people of Transition Town will be ready for the simple life.

What a development! I acknowledge that oil is a stock resource, hence must be used with caution. Also, conservation of natural resources remains an issue. However, if the production of oil across the world plummets intermittently, its supply cannot go into extinction in this generation. With solar energy currently a viable option, another flow resource like the use of precipitation in this regard should also be explored. We are safe.
The other day, when I was watching the cars passing by in a mayor highway, it came to my mind the millions of tons of rubber from the tires that are deposited every year on the streets and roads of the world. Those particles are carried away by the wind to remote places and eventually end up in our lungs and the food that we eat. I hope that, as an intelligent specie, we will stop this continuous damage that we are inflicting to de enviroment before it is to late.
THE WORLD FOR SURE WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT OIL! The first automobiles used alcohol to move around; new technologies will be applied and/or invented, and there we'll go again.
I wonder where they expect a supply of car tires will come from if cars and oil are predicted to disappear. The world will not run out of oil. Its extraction will simply become progressively more expensive and dangerous. It will be around as long as industrialized society is. Mud brick construction is best suited to earthquake free regions that are very dry. The Netherlands qualifies on the first count but not on the second. Rather than car tires, these folks should be scavenging discarded conventional construction materials.
The notions of keeping life simple and planting trees where possible are the best suggestions from this clip.
ah and p.s. Do these people that make these ''houses'' live in them also?? or after they finish they go to their ''proper'' ones?
Hillarious!
Stupidity at its best..how does that work in a city with a couple of million people? or in an overpopulated planet? maybe kill 4 billion humans so that the rest 1 billion survives?
Dont have people anything more substantial or of essence to do?
It would be wise to learn how to start a fire by rubbing two pieces of wood. We did not learn much from the fate of the dinosaurs. The planet will still be here for other species to evolve and do the same mistakes over an over.
Adobe should not be used to build in earthquake prone countries. In Central America many adobe buildings went down or were destroyed by earthquakes.
The nations and people that know how to work with fuel cells, hydrogen, solar cells and other alternative sources of energy might do well in the future.
very good, we should all take note of this, the day will come when we will need to be self-sufficient - and the elite globalists are advancing that time frame on a daily basis.

Very wise step! I have liked it very much! Millions are living this way around the world, and they have the wisdom and experience of their elders. But the people in urban/metros need this wisdom-to re-invent the wheel! But sadly in countries like India, where do have the wisdom and experience, we are aping the developed countries and adopting metro-culture and becoming so dependent and delicate...And the saddest part is that nobody listens to you-they want to enjoy the moment, even if they are limited like the resources.
