More about:

The Netherlands, like many other countries in Europe, has been covered in a thick layer of snow since last Thursday. It snowed even more over the weekend, causing severe disruptions to road, rail and air traffic throughout the country.

My Dutch is still very good, but, last December, I was so grateful for the railways official on the platform, in Utrecht who explained which train to catch. I'd been less impressed with the service from the "Information" people both in Utrecht and in Amsterdam. One told me to follow my nose. The other told me that there were signs - outside, the station. (There were renovations going on and I certainly was LOST!)
All that snow seemed to cause extra announcements and disruptions to the services and you had to be a local to know what it all meant. On the positive side: I liked how at least one trip from Heiloo to the 'randstad' was free, to make up for disruptions.

Yes, beautiful... but worrying... I'm going to visit the Netherlands and Germany in the latter half of coming January. Does anybody know something about the mid-term weather forecast over there???

Thank you, Anonymous, for your comment, and I hope you'll make it to the Netherlands.

The forecast for the mid-January period has temperatures between -1 and 8 Celsius, and a 50 percent chance of sleet or snow - so not as disruptive as the December spate of snow and temperatures consistently below freezing.

Many thanks! Japan is also expected to be hit by a cold wave this weekend, but largely a big body of cold air sits somewhere in Siberia and Mongolia for the moment, enough far from Japan.
Hope the traffic system in Europe will be normalized in the mid January...

White mantle looks beautiful, just like fairylands in stories...but it must be a difficult life too. Best wishes!
