Harragas: Algeria's young boat people

Published on : 25 May 2009 - 1:58pm | By RNW Radio Netherlands Worldwide
More about:

Increasing numbers of Algerian youths are risking their lives to migrate to Europe.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who is seeking his third term, has promised to create three million jobs if re-elected. But many youths lack faith in their septuagenarian leader. Despite two failed attempts to reach Europe, 28-year-old Sofiane hopes that one day he will make it to "the promised land".
