Eco-bicycles in Mexico City

Published on : 19 October 2010 - 12:38pm | By VJ Movement (screenshot: VJ Movement)
More about:

A thousand rental bikes are available every day in Mexico City. The government programme has been copied from European cities, such as Paris and Barcelona, to reduce car use and relieve pressure on public transport.

Every day over five million cars drive through Mexico City, making it one of the most polluted cities in the world. But since early this year there has been an alternative: Ecobici. A group of cyclists rides through the streets every Friday evening ringing their bells to promote this government plan. But roads are still being built and some cycle paths are already impassable.
