The number of older cyclists who suffer serious injuries is on the increase. 4000 senior citizens were injured in 2008. The following year the number had risen by 25%.
The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment, Melanie Schultz van Haegen, believes the figure will continue to rise as a result of the Netherlands' ageing population. She wants to make senior citizens aware of their vulnerability. The Cyclists Union already has special courses for people over the age of 50.




















Let us please not overstate the dangers of cycling. The health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle are far greater. This is a good program because it encourages people to keep riding.
