Dutch doctors are struggling with the growing demand for euthanasia. Since euthanasia was legalised in 2002, the number of cases has increased dramatically.
In 2004, there were 1,886 cases. In 2009, there were over 2,600. Last year's figures have not yet been released. But there's been at least a 10% increase every year. And the pressure on doctors to do it continues to grow.
Most doctors don't have an ethical problem with mercy killing, but they still find it emotionally difficult.
