The Dutch government wants to ban mink breeding in the Netherlands. Politicians argue that the ban is necessary to prevent animal suffering and to protect the environment.
But ethicists question the value of a law to protect a single type of animal. If politicians were serious about protecting animal rights, they should also take measures to provide better protection for livestock, such as chickens, pigs and cows.
