In the autumn, people all over Europe go out to pick mushrooms to eat. But the Dutch think mushrooms are dangerous because some of them are toxic. Mushroom expert Mark Janssen takes devotees into the woods in search of edible mushrooms.
In the rest of Europe, says Janssen, people know how to appreciate mushrooms. "But in the Netherlands, schools discourage children from picking mushrooms."
The Amsterdam Mediamatic Bureau organises mushroom hunts in the woods near Maartensdijk, between Hilversum and Utrecht. Participants eat the mushrooms in the evening in Amsterdam, together with a glass of wine. "I also eat them raw, with oil and lemon," says Janssen. "But for dinner, I prefer pasta with cream sauce and Bay boletes."

Very true, Anonymous, we prefer the button mushrooms we get in the market...
It hardly seems worth it, when poisonous mushrooms look so much like edible ones. Leave them alone. Buy them in the supermarket - there are lots of varieties.
