CNN: wrong type of news?

Published on : 15 April 2010 - 4:58pm | By Thijs Westerbeek van Eerten (Photo: Flickr/jen_maiser)
More about:

CNN has fallen from grace. Prime time ratings have collapsed, and even superstar Larry King has to make do with half his former audience, in spite of his great guests and snappy questions.

According to senior foreign affairs correspondent Bernard Hammelburg the problem lies with the type of news that is CNN’s trade mark: general unbiased news no longer holds the viewer’s attention.

The proof: Larry King’s counterpart at the right-wing TV station Fox News, Sean Hannity, gets four times as many viewers with his endless ranting against Obama, the Democrats and anything he sees as ‘leftist’.

Even the editors of the world-famous ‘BBC Newshour’ now grumble that it would be cheaper to simply send the few remaining viewers a DVD. Bernard Hammelburg can see what lies ahead: in a few years time there will be no place for ‘real news’ on television.

Today there are many top most streaming sites providing video streaming facility. It is very helpful for the people fond of watching online videos as it saves time. The benefit of streaming is that there is no need to wait or download a file to play it. Instead, the media/content is sent in a continuous stream of data and it is directly played as it arrives.I use to search videos daily but now i am relieved.

What Fox and another like Fox with this type of view point news is a future disaster, a culture of mediocrity, a road to comumism and if any doubt is in your mind seat back go to archives of the news and news paper before the Cuban's Revolucion.
Beside none of you are notice that news almost always was the same picture over and over again, where the only that chage are the actors in the news. If any doubt look the cuba issue has 52, no change all is the sames only the actors change no matter if victim or verduges, Israel and Palestine 62 year the same picture with diferent actor, Africa, hunger is an issue that took almost 200 year the same picture , China the same where the only chages is the color of the same dinasty and on and on.

Of what are you talking about the audience of CNN will return after the hamover.

There are so many channels, radio broadcasts, web news, newspapers- all ranting the same, thrashing the same news, doing endless postmortems, journalists putting their views- I think real news has got lost somewhere in this era of technology...A person gets so much bombarded by news and views, that he/she, switches off the TV/Radio/ Internet....just like I am doing now, and goes away to get some fresh air and think of his/her loved one...

CNN has become a FOX's "body double" carrying a sound republican right-wing agenda...

To keep this topical, I look for news over the Internet, and not just in English. If I wanted news in English about the upcoming June elections, I'd get a darn Geert Wilders cheering section! I read about the June elections in Dutch and I get more information about epically Job Cohen and the other MAINSTREAM parties. I would not know about Cohen's use of Obama's "yes we can" or the concern about education by the PvdA by reading only English. I also read Spanish and French. This is really another world.
American news is absolute garbage. It is full of American jingoism, no matter right or left. It never gets into anything controversial or against American jingoism. I watch other video streams from other countries.

For the poster from Canada. Americans are not "all conservative," as you are implying. American conservatives like to try to imply in every conservation, everyplace, that "all Americans are conservative," which is rubbish. Not everyone watches FOX news - and FOX news is rather childish. Is FOX news still promoting the Birther rubbish that President Obama is not really an American citizen and is a Bolshevik that is turning America into the Soviet Union?

Rachel Maddow does NOT ``yell and scream`` at everyone, or anyone on her show, and she certainly was not doing so in the clip. Her arguments are extremely well-researched and backed up by facts.

When people's mental occupancy is in high availability, recoganizing real people with real heart and words becomes easier because human brain needs enough blank. What's real and should be kept real forever is human nature, and brain is the only real aseet for both individual and a nation's president. It's common sense to equip soldiers well, so is it to ordinary civilians.

The interpretation of the loss of interest in viewing mainstream news broadcasts, being that "unbiased news no longer holds the viewer’s attention", is a misdirect. People are not losing interest in real news. They are losing interest in looking for it and never finding it. CNN ignored the two wars for so long that it was years since I heard anything about either of them on CNN and stopped looking there for information. FOX has a growing loyal audience because many people are finding that FOX discusses things that they are worrying about and want to hear about. The big mistake FOX is making is that they think that their own demographic is not very bright. Their audience is already growing tired of being talked down to as though they were retarded.
The trouble is that the news broadcasters have been bought out by corporate multinationals who are not interested in rocking any boats... so they have largely substituted news with celebrity gossip and the daily bowel movements of the stock market. The headlines are always about celebrities, and never about what is going on in the world. People are still interested in the news, but the gutting of meaningful journalism is deliberate and will continue for a long time to come.
