Clever gadgets make life easier and more fun

Published on : 13 March 2011 - 9:56am | By Casper Meijer (Screen capture: RNW)
More about:

In the house of the future, everything can be operated remotely. People can attend meetings via a robot and you can finally look friends in the eye on Skype.

Casper Meijer discovers the latest gadgets at the electronics trade fair [[[CeBit ]]] 2011 in the German city of Hannover.

Don't move
At the fair, German company
Connected Living combines technology so that you can operate lights, music and tumble dryers from one spot in the house. Just like Dutch astronomer and TV presenter Chriet Titulaer predicted 20 years ago with his House of the Future.

Eye contact
Ever found it annoying that it's impossible to look someone in the eye during a webcam conversation? The Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin has developed technology which makes a 3D model of your head, so that you can have eye contact while you Skype.

Robot
A new way of teleconferencing is via the robot Jazz by French company Gostai. Its head contains a webcam, a microphone and a screen. So you can attend meetings virtually or literally keep an eye on the office, just by operating the keyboard.
