Cannabis fields in the quiet Dutch countryside

Published on : 25 July 2011 - 11:23am | By Margo de Haas (RNW)
More about:

The Netherlands is famous for its cannabis – or at least, its coffeeshops, where tourists gleefully fill joints with decriminalised soft drugs. But in the northern province of Groningen, the plants in the cannabis fields stretching off to the horizon won’t get you stoned.

They’re male plants, which hardly contain any THC, the chemical that gets you high. The crop is grown to produce hemp, used in products ranging from cat litter to car doors.

All this illegal cannabis should be destroy because it can be a temptation. Drugs can be a real temptation for everyone, no offense, especially for teenagers. I have a cousin at Drug Rehab Florida because of drug abuse. I didn't think he will use drugs, but apparently I was wrong.

You obviously don't have a clue about the plant(s). Hemp is grown strictly for commercial purposes. Only thing you get from it, if you smoke it, is a very big headache! Hemp has yet to be accepted into the manufacturing sector worldwide because there are too many major corporations who do not wish to lose their income due to the alternative, often better Hemp products.

Marijuana, on the other hand, is being discriminated against by the Christian political factions in Holland. Until now it has had little negative effect on the country. Certainly the income is a huge plus. Can't wait to vote the Christian parties out in the next election.

Strange thinking, here in Holland. Some are anti-Marijuana claiming ridiculous negative issues (such as violence and death...which does not happen). Yet the same minority in Holland wishes to raise the speed limits for vehicles to 130 kmh!! It's a no-brainer that this higher speed limit will result in multiple (and increasing) deaths.

Holland's citizens need to get real and stop the insanity (and infringement on rights) before Holland is another litigation-crazy America!
