Bending it like Arjen Robben on your mobile

Published on : 10 June 2010 - 4:25pm | By Marjolein Stoop (Photo: RNW)
More about:

Have you always wanted to slam one into the back of the net like Arjen Robben or Dirk Kuyt? The new football games for mobile phones are extremely realistic but they don't function perfectly on every model. Casper Meijer compares three football games and tries out the new Nintendo games console. Handy tips for the summer holiday.

There's just one official World Cup football game for the Xbox, PlayStation or mobile phone. It is
EA-Sports. The same one that produces a new updated FIFA football game every year. It's a healthy cash cow for FIFA and available as a download for Nokia and iPhone. On the iPhone, it looks great and functions perfectly, but it's a complete dud on the Nokia.

The Windows telephone, HTC Desire, has got Gameloft's Real Football 2010 and it looks just as good as the the iPhone game. The only drawback is that you can't bend it like Dirk Kuyt, because HTC doesn't have a licence to use real players' names.

Games console
Nintendo has released a games console that can also take photographs and go online. The Nintendo DSi XL  costs about 170 euros. But does this electronic device have the same magical effect on Casper Meijer as his old Game Boy used to?

Another game to install on my iphone. Nokia never really established itself with it's games, or smartphones for that matter. Nokia lead in serving simple GSM phones but it has a long way to go in catching up with the market leaders for smartphones.
