Amsterdam is unveiling a new car-sharing experiment today. The city's inhabitants will be able to use the fleet of 300 electric cars to go anywhere in the city. Renting a Car2Go will cost 29 eurocents a minute, and that includes insurance, taxes and parking fees.
Amsterdam has invested six million euros in the Car2Go project. The automobile manufacturer, Daimler Benz, is providing the electric cars, while the city provides charge stations and parking spaces.
Critics already have expressed their doubts about the experiment. It's Amsterdam's third attempt at introducing an electric car-sharing scheme. The last attempt in the 1970s failed because there weren't enough cars. Amsterdam is also relatively small and has an excellent public transport system.
