Newsline 18 February 2010: Did Israel's Mossad assassinate a Hamas militant in Dubai? Obama defies China with Dalai Lama meeting. And are the Vancouver Winter Games the worst Olympics ever?
Assassination causes Israel - UK row
The British and Irish governments summoned the Israeli ambassador today to explain Mossad's alleged use of their passports to assassinate a Hamas militant in Dubai. Israel says there is no reason to believe that Mossad carried out the assasination, but RNW Israel correspondent David Poort says even Israelis don't buy the denials.
Obama hosts Dalai Lama despite Chinese threats
Other world leaders have backed down from playing host to the Tibetan spiritual leader for fear of upsetting Chinese sensibilities and important trade relations, but President Obama has decided to go ahead with the meeting anyway. US-China relations expert Elisabeth Economy of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York interprets the meeting.
Worst Olympics ever?
Entering day seven of the 2010 Winter Olympics, many athletes have been successful - but the Games themselves have been marred by a string of mishaps. Dan Karpenchuk reports from Toronto.

The distance between Vancouver and Toronto, where Dan Karpenchuk "phoned in" his report, is about the same distance as Amsterdam is from Cairo, Egypt. Nice work Radio Netherlands. I suggest your commissioning editor by an atlas or better yet, spend some money and get a first hand report next time.
This sums up what is wrong with your report "Worst Olympics Ever" it is the this "Dan Karpenchuk reports from Toronto"
Is that the best you can do? is get some reporter in Toronto to rehash British news reports, in their tabloid press?
Frankly the British should be the ones casting stones seeing that their Olympics is just in it's very early stages and they are already having scandals. If we were as petty as they are we would be doing the same as them, but no one can be as petty as the English it seems.
Everyone knows that many of the dutch speak English and you have lots of press here to cover your athletes events. Would it really be that hard to have one of them go around and talk to athletes here and get the true impressions instead of second hand reports from the British tabloid press? Some athletes have raved about their accommodations, again maybe ask your own athletes here for their opinion.
We also get a rehash of David Letterman's opinion related by Dan like the host city has something to do with this. News flash Dan! The host city does not have a final say on safety in the sliding centre or get to have an opinion the tragic accident. It is the IOC from Switzerland and the luge overseeing body out of I believe France.
As for the warm weather it happened for a week now it is back to colder temperatures and things are fine so what is the big deal. Dan wouldn't know that though since he is in Toronto.
I am a big follower of radio Netherlands, listen to their podcasts everyday, they have a pretty good non-biased perspective usually but this makes me question it now.
