Newsline - 12 April 2010: Poland mourns the death of its president. Not everyone's happy about the 30 billion euro bailout for Greece. And can online peer pressure make you an organ donor?
Week of mourning begins in Poland
Poland has begun a week of national mourning for President Lech Kaczynski and the other 95 victims of Saturday's plane crash. The government plane was carrying a delegation to a memorial ceremony in Russia for the World War II Katyn massacre - when an estimated 22,000 Polish soldiers were killed by Russian forces. Newsline's Warsaw correspondent Dave McGuire reports on what effect the loss of so many senior figures is having on Poland.
Grumbling over massive Greek bailout
The EU will lend Greece thirty billion euros to keep it from drowning under a tidal wave of debt. On Sunday, finance ministers from the eurozone countries had an emergency meeting as the Greek state stares bankruptcy in the face. Newsline's Brussels correspondent Vanessa Mock reports.
Can social networking sites boost organ donation?
The nine million users of the Dutch social networking website Hyves will today be asked whether or not they want to register as an organ donor. Hyves - the Dutch version of Facebook - is cooperating with a new government campaign aimed at raising the number of donors. Janine van Trierum of the Dutch Transplant Foundation told Newsline why a social networking site makes it easier to target a wider audience.
