Violence spreads in Nigeria
Islamist militants today attacked Nigerian police stations in two more northern states, after at least 39 people were killed in Yobe State on Sunday. Sharia law is in place across northern Nigeria but there is no history of al-Qaeda linked violence in the country. India launches nuclear sub
India joined an exclusive club today - becoming one of just six countries in the world to launch a nuclear-powered submarine. It was built entirely in India, with Russian assistance and work on a second one is due to begin soon.
When your home is your prison
Here in the Netherlands, some convicted criminals never go to prison. Instead, they serve a term under house arrest, electronically tagged with an ankle bracelet so authorities can monitor their movement. Many politicians, and even some judges, say this form of punshment is being used too often.
