Listen to today's edition of Newsline:

Ambassador says no more troops
The American ambassador in Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, has warned President Barack Obama against sending extra troops to the country. The warning was sent in a secret cable to the White House which was leaked to US media. Mr Eikenberry, who is a former US army commander in Afghanistan, reportedly said Afghan President Hamid Karzai should first prove  it would tackle the country's widespread corruption. Our Afghanistan correspondent Bette Dam told me earlier that most Afghans agree.

The Charter for Compassion
We are living in uncertain times of political and social instability. That's the view of religious thinker Karen Armstrong, who today launched a global Charter for Compassion with the aim of getting people to be a bit nicer to each other. One of the philosophers who helped draw up this document is the revered Muslim thinker Tariq Ramadan, who explained why he wanted to be involved in this project.

The online suicide guide
There's a new website for people who want to know how to end their lives. The Dutch Right to Die Foundation has launched the website especially for its more than 100-thousand members. The site tells readers which medicines can be used  and  gives a step-by-step method for using them. Our reporter Robert Chesal has been following the story.

Perhaps, you are right, Hiram. Dutch have everything easy, so they don't appreciate what they have. However, it reminds me of Lord Buddha:he had it all but the misery of the world moved him to the core. He renounced the worldly pleasures to seek salvation. Salvation, mind you, not Death by suicide! Though both are akin but by living in salvation you admire the Nature and help others to attain bliss, and in death by suicide, you go back to Nature, by giving pain to others.

I can understand about the human aspiration for the right to live, but I do not understand the Dutch fascination for the right to death! Why are the Dutch so pessimistic? Why do they adopt a way of life that takes them away from the brighter side of life? The Dutch are affluent people as compared to the part of the globe I live in, but I find that they do not appreciate the gift of life and find ways to end it!! WHY? Will a pure Dutch, in the RNW team, shed some light on my query? I am Curious about Orange, you can say!

"The Dutch are affluent people as compared to the part of the globe I live in, but I find that they do not appreciate the gift of life and find ways to end it!!"........They don't appreciate the "Gift of Life" because they haven't been adversely affected since WWII. Ask anybody in the Netherlands who lived Germany's control of the Nethrlands and I will bet they appreciate life. As to India, there are more people suffering than all the Dutch and all of them appreciate life more than the Dutch. Why? Because they suffer and they thank G-d for the little things in life like food and their lives. Take the wealth away from the affluent Dutch and you will see a change in their lives.
