LIVE AT THE CONCERTGEBOUW "…born in Ukraine in 1984, pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk was raised in a musical family. His parents are folk musicians. Alexander learned to sing, joined a choir and gave his first public performance as a pianist at the age of nine. This wonderfully gifted young man, an energetic, witty and poetic musician aged 26 now, is the soloist in the second Piano Concerto written by a 22 year old Sergej Prokofiev. Not as popular as the first or the third, this concerto offers an unusually wide and rich perspective or as Prokofiev described the concerto: It was an attempt to strive for greater depth…" [RNW-host Hans Haffmans]
