The State We're In - The right to sex

On air: 15 August 2009 22:00 - 21 August 2009 22:00 (Photo: RNW)

More about:

The State We’re In - 15 August 2009: with Charles Taylor facing charges in The Hague of war crimes committed in Sierra Leone, we talk to a man who lived through the horrors of that war – and we follow him as he makes a journey to The Hague to see the man whose very voice still makes him shake with fear and outrage. Wendy Salisbury, 63, loves sex, and has no trouble finding eager, younger partners. Kenyan women withhold sex to break a political deadlock and a man with Down’s Syndrome explains why he thinks he should have sex. His mum agrees.

Babah’s day in court
Charles Taylor is on trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, charged with committing war crimes in Sierra Leone. Babah Tarawally is from Sierra Leone, and now lives in the Netherlands. He saw the horrors of war firsthand, and remains traumatized by the experience. He’s avoided going to the trial out of fear of seeing Taylor in person. Until now. Babah goes to The Hague with host Jonathan Groubert to make what he calls his confrontation with history.

This week’s theme is “the right to sex”.

Sex and the senior
Wendy Salisbury is the author of Toyboy Diaries. She loves sex. And she’s not embarrassed to say so. She’s also 63 years old. “We’re no longer little old ladies with grey hair queuing for our pensions in the local post office,” she says. Wendy tells Jonathan why she’s blazing a new trail for her generation.

No sex please, we’re Kenyan
There’s been a political deadlock in Kenya since last year. To break it, some women organized a sex strike - to hit the men where it counts. Patricia Nyaundi was one of the organizers of the strike. She explains why she thinks it was a great idea.

Downs but not out
Otto Baxter is 22 years old and has Down’s Syndrome. He also wants to have sex. But that’s not so easy in a culture which marginalizes people with disabilities. He and his mother, Lucy, talk openly about why it’s his right to do what other people his age is doing.

I knew from hearsay that the British women are the most "advanced" in all kinds of disreputable sexual behaviour, now after having listened to the interview with W.Salisbury I know it for sure.At present it's difficult to find in Britain an English woman who has never had sexual relationships with the coloured. She did not tell us that, but I guess she found "boy-friends" for herself among the coloured guys. They might have thought:"Though an old woman, but then a WHITE woman".
Not a racist 10 May 2010 - 8:58am / USA

So, what gives!? Are you a racist? Something wrong with women having sex with whoever they want? Answer up, please!

"His father a doctor decided to keep him unmarried and away from any relationship with girls!".....Maybe his doctor and father knew what was really good for him. A"simpleton" is defined as: " a person lacking in common sense". They weren't selfish or cruel. They knew the posible consquences affecting him and anyone who he married. Now comes the consquences: I hope they are good?

Hiram, my cousin doesn't have any disease that could be transmitted to his offsprings. He has his problem due to birth trauma caused by delayed delivery. He is very affectionate, kind and co-operative, and not wickedly clever like people who have greater common sense. Yes, the consequence is that his wife is loving and caring so he is happy and doing great in his job as an assistant!

Actually, this program is broadcast is in the US on an increasing number of public radio stations. Cheers, Jonathan
This programme is broadcast in the USA? Wonderful! Please make more socially progressive programmes and ignore the people who ignore human rights (the right to return to one's own country -- UDHR article 13). The USA and Israel have vetoed and violated human rights so many times, maybe the RIGHT TO SEX will relax anglo-american uptight hatred and fear.

I heard your most recent Program-The Right To Sex-hosted by Jonathan Groubert ,this morning on CBC Overnight. Your host did a remarkable job of interviewing as the subject was difficult. Your Program often brings new understanding to complex issues. However,I must confess that I learned much from yesterday's Program despite the the fact that I'm often a personal critic of Radio Netherlands because of your blind support for the Palestinians and your overt and relentless criticism of Israel.
anonymous 16 August 2009 - 6:56pm
Good say, Morris, Radio Netherlands is a blind supporter of Palestinians and muslims in general! They cannot see what the muslims are doing to the civilised world by their open or overt support. RNW is governed by muslims, I think, they just give Christians names to befool you!

Try to broadcast this programme in the USA! You'll be outlawed and publicly pilloried. The right to sex is a red cloth. Take the UN declaration of human rights. It is binding law in USA, it is ratified! Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. What about the right to life? Imagine the bloody bodies of the hundreds and thousands of civilian victims of US/UK/European bombing. Afghani, Iraqi murdered for pipelines. The right to economic safety? How about MEDICARE? Watch Obama fail! Sex is natural. Our highly doctrinal media system purposely distorts discussion about sex. If sex then is a problem, they can present themselves as a solution. It is similar with the current terrorism. It is not possible for any western media fifedom to even mention the possibility of western intelligence false-flag terrorism, It would be heresy to discuss any evidence. In the same way they cannot report on sex in a fashion that would help society. Harming the natural emotions about sex is profitable for a private-owned undemocratic tyranny. Who is to blame? Foremost it is lazy politicians who are not willing to experiment with solutions and instead bow to the dictate of private business and its mighty PR empire. Maybe more importantly it is the fault of western capitalist SYSTEM that allows the burdening of social costs on to the tax-payers while generously giving investment freedom for privatising the profits from exploitation. Are these the ten sexiest women? How can they be if they are psychological wrecks? http://miscellaneous-sonstiges.blogspot.com/2009/08/eye-candy-good-looki... Looks, style, dressing-up is all manufactured. Draw your conclusions and organise. Big thanks to you people-owned radio Netherlands for taking on the issue. It is a shame that you are forced to keep quiet about the points I mention.
