More about:

Niccolò Paganini

Italian violinist, violist, guitarist, and composer, who lived from 1782 untill 1840. He was one of the most celebrated violin virtuosi of his time, and left his mark as one of the pillars of modern violin technique. His Caprice No. 24 in A minor, Op. 1, is among the best known of his compositions, and has served as an inspiration for many prominent composers.

LIVE AT THE CONCERTGEBOUW “…The Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov quoted the Italian master Niccolò Paganini. Rachmaninov composed a wonderful new piece of music, based on an old theme. It is just one example of an important feature in not only music, it can also be found in painting or in architecture: learned from the past, quote or even copy the old masters and by doing this, discover your own voice.” [RNW-host Hans Haffmans]
