Accusations fly between Sri Lanka’s old allies
General Sarath lost last month's Sri Lankan elections to his former ally in the civil war against the Tamil Tigers. He's now been accused of trying to overthrow the government and assassinate newly re-elected President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Dutch coalition tiptoes round Iraq enquiry findings
The Davids Commission inquiry into Dutch political support for the Iraq war found the centre-right government at the time misled parliament, and Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende failed to take the lead. It's taken Mr Balkenende’s current centre-left coalition more than three weeks to agree on a response.

Ex-ministers back bid to legalise assisted suicide
Assisted suicide for the over-70s should be legalized – also for people who aren’t terminally ill. This is the view of the Dutch politicians, former ministers and celebrities behind the initiative 'Of Our Own Free Will', launched on Tuesday.
