Live at the Concertgebouw - Nutcracker

On air: 24 October 2011 16:00 - 21 November 2011 8:00 (photo: Helga Verlaan)

More about:

LIVE AT THE CONCERTGEBOUW “…Peter Tchaikovsky’s complete ballet in two acts ‘The Nutcracker’ will be performed today by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and its chief conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Being offered the complete Nutcracker at the concert hall has become a rare treat. Bits and pieces of Tchaikovsky’s sweet and touching melodies have found their way to Disney films, ring tones and even the fashionable doll Barbie recently opted for these Tchaikovsky tunes as her favorite music…” [RNW-host Hans Haffmans]

Arguably, this is one of the BEST 'Nutcraker's' I've heard in a long time.

For ages, Antal Dorati and the Concertgebow has been my reference from the days of the lp.

A full concert performance is a rare thing and this was a welcome performance.

Mr Nézet-Séquin is pretty much spot on other than a few minor gafs in the orchestra.

Wonderful warm dynamic sound from the online sound which is really quite something these days

Cheers from Canada

Actually I heard this concert on my car radio last night, as our local public radio station (Vermont Public Radio - Classical) broadcast this concert as part of its "In Concert" series. Good that RNW has this arrangement with radio stations worldwide!
