The Concertgebouw
Part of the renovation of the Concertgebouw between 1985 and 1988 was the construction of a new wing. The wing with the covered promenade is an integral part of the building. The design is simple, with a lot of glass, so that the old building is not compromised. The colours of the Concertgebouw, from light grey to dark red, are carried through into this extension, in the various types of stone.
LIVE AT THE CONCERTGEBOUW: ”… I am standing outside in front of the old main entrance of the Concertgebouw, the main entrance which was closed in the eighties when a new entrance on the side of the building was added as part of the impressive extension made out of glass.
In front of me I see the magnificent façade of the Rijksmuseum, the world famous museum where all the great Rembrandts are shown. Slightly on the left side the Van Gogh museum, that attracts a lot of visitors from all over Europe, the States, Japan and China…”
