Street theatre to reduce leprosy's stigma in Sri Lanka

Leprosy is so reviled, it's name has become synonymous with social stigma. There are still between 200,000 and 400,000 new cases of leprosy found each year around the globe, according to Leprosy Mission International. 

Although the disease can now be treated, the social exclusion often lives on. One group in Northern Sri Lanka is now trying to use traditional Tamil street theatre to get rid of the stigma.

Clearing the air in Pakistan

Homes in the Hindu Kush mountains used to be cold and smoky during the harsh winters. The inefficient wood stoves used for heating and cooking caused many people to have respiratory ailments.

But a new project is working to change that, and won a prestigious Ashden Award for sustainable energy in London last week. How does it work? Find out on South Asia Wired.
