HEAR THE WORLD "Hear the World presents, modern electronic beats and samples of traditional music from the Balkans by Nikola Gruev, who’s better known by his artist’s name Kottarashky. His music can be heard in Sofia’s club circuit, but we recorded him performing with his band at the 2010 Music Meeting in Nijmegen. This is contrasted by the sunny sounds and sensual voice of Mariana Ramos from Cape Verde performing at the 2010 Hertme Afrika Festival. Her varied and cheerful repertoire of fados and Cape Verdian morna mix well with samba, zouk and mazurka styles.
And if that doesn’t get you dancing, there’s the energetic Afro-Cuban rhythms of Contrabando. In this project, nine enthusiastic musicians led by Andres Fernández Ordoñez rediscover their Cuban roots. The band is fast becoming one of Cuba’s best acts.
The show’s Dutch World Music Delight is the contemporary and experimental sound of Ensemble Multifoon, which mixes Indian Raga with Indonesian gamelan in a way you have never heard before."
