More about:

On this week's South Asia Wired, you can listen to the remarkable story of Sri Kumaré, an Indian guru who managed to attract many followers during a recent visit to the US state of Arizona. Turns out, Kumaré is not real. He is not an Indian guru and the documentary is fake. Sri Kumaré is Indian-American filmmaker Vikram Gandhi who tailored a fake religion and a fake philosphy ('The Mirror') for the purpose of this film, in order to see what religion and spiritual authority can do to people.

As for the people in the film - they are real. They truly believed Sri Kumaré, one even declaring that she "would follow him anywhere".

Vikram Gandhi speaks to South Asia Wired's Gayatri Parameswaran on this week's edition of our show.
